New Delhi – Air India and IndiGo have cancelled several flights to and from key border cities today, May 13, 2025, citing safety concerns amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Flights to and from cities such as Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot have been suspended by both airlines, while Air India has also extended cancellations to Jodhpur, Bhuj, and Jamnagar.
In view of the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind, flights to and from these cities are cancelled for Tuesday, 13th May,” Air India posted on social media platform X. “We are monitoring the situation and will keep you updated.
IndiGo echoed similar concerns, stating that the cancellations were made “with your safety as our utmost priority.” The airline acknowledged the disruption to travel plans and assured passengers that their teams are closely monitoring developments.
Civilian Airports Reopened, But Tensions Remain
The airports affected by these cancellations had only just reopened for civilian operations on Monday, following a brief closure due to escalated military activities between India and Pakistan.
On Monday, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that flight operations had resumed at 32 airports, including Adampur, Ambala, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bikaner, Halwara, Hindon, Jaisalmer, Kandla, Kangra, and more.
The temporary shutdown was initiated after military tensions surged in the wake of a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. The Indian government linked the attack to cross-border terror networks and launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
India-Pakistan Ceasefire Announced
Following days of heightened military engagement, including airstrikes, drone interceptions, and targeted operations, both India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday. The agreement aimed to halt further military action and de-escalate the situation along the western borders.
Indian forces had earlier targeted terror camps operated by groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen, reportedly destroying multiple sites and neutralizing over 100 militants.
In retaliation, Pakistan launched drones and missiles toward India, which were successfully intercepted by Indian defense systems. India responded with targeted strikes on military installations and ammunition depots inside Pakistan in locations such as Rafiqui, Chaklala, and Sialkot.
