In comparison to the present, earlier teenagers used to take part in physical activities or say outdoor games. Today the situation is different. Today, teenagers are becoming busier in mobile games like PUBG, Fortnite, Freefire, COD, and many more. Outdoor sports such as today's children have grown out of routine. Recently, the World Health Organization released a survey on school-going adolescents aged 11 to 17 in 146 countries. The survey is an analysis of 2001–2016, which is shocking. Read this report.
The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health journal
The survey published in the journal states that 85% of girls and 78% of boys are not meeting the current standard of participating in physical activities for at least an hour per day. Girls in this category have the highest percentage of girls. India ranks 8th in the list of countries with less participation in physical activity, with 73.9%. In addition to India, Bangladesh and the United States also figure in this list. The report says that children who are away from physical activities will start having health problems in the future.
This survey revealed that a large population of teenagers between 11 and 17 years are away from physical activities like sports, cycling, etc. If the condition remains the same, then the objective of reducing inadequate physical activity by 15% of all countries will not be fulfilled. In the year 2018, at the World Health Assembly, all the countries had set a target to increase physical activity by 2030.
Improvement in boys, worrying situation of girls-
Globally, between 2001 and 2016, there has been a slight increase in the number of boys participating in physical activity, while the condition of girls has not improved. In the survey of countries like India and Bangladesh, it was found that girls are unable to participate in physical activities like sports in the context of domestic work.
The survey also suggested that how can we activate children in physical activities-
A sports policy should be started in which children can participate. Children should be given opportunities in every field so that they can become active by participating. Leaders in villages and cities should organize programs from time to time to make people aware of sports and physical activities.
