Kerala is set to have elections ahead in May 2021, ahead of elections, the political parties are trying to make sure they include the best candidates in their party to win the trust of the citizen and lead the election. BJP is set to introduce several candidates and one of them is E Sreedharan, the candidate who excels in his field and known as one of India’s prominent and best engineers who is best known as an excellent employee of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for 17 years. He set to mark his entry into politics in Kerala through the BJP.
The 88-year-old is probably going join the party during its Vijay Yatra in Kerala from Sunday and is probably going to contest the Kerala election, due by May. This is the step that will act as the game-changer in the Kerala election.
Popularly called ‘Metroman’ for his efforts in changing the face of transport within the capital through the Delhi Metro and subsequently helping the Kerala government in an advisory role within the fixing of the Kochi Metro, Sreedharan is predicted to require primary membership of the BJP during the upcoming ‘vijaya’ yatra led by party state president K Surendran.
Surendran said at a news conference in Kozhikode that the party has requested Sreedharan to contest the upcoming Assembly elections. It is believed that if the central leadership exerts pressure, the 88-year-old may accept the candidature. Sreedharan, who was the director of the DMRC between 1995 and 2012, was bestowed the Padmashri and therefore the Padmavibhushan by the Indian Government. He is also known for his key role in the development of the Konkan railway through India’s western coast.
"After being retired for last 10 years in Kerala, I have kept a close watch on various governments and that they are not doing what will be beneficial for the individuals. I’m joining the BJP to be ready to do my part, using my experience," he said, explaining the rationale he opted for the BJP. It is one of the big steps by him in joining the BJP and being the known and famous face, it will help the party to create a good image in front of voters.
The BJP has one MLA within the 140-member Kerala assembly and is considered a touch player compared to the ruling Left-led alliance and therefore the opposition Congress-led coalition.
